Dr. Alan Turry's dissertation,
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN WORDS AND MUSIC IN MUSIC THERAPY IMPROVISATION:
AN EXAMINATION OF A THERAPIST'S METHOD,
analyzes the relationship between lyrics and music in improvised songs that were created in the context of music therapy with a woman diagnosed with cancer.
This research is particularly notable because of its attempt to link elements of music with the specific verbal-lyrical content of the improvised songs comprising the study's data.
